The Avonlea Heritage Museum is located at the end of Main Street in the original CN train station. We are open from the first Monday in May until September Long weekend, from 10 AM to 5 PM every day of the week. We offer both guided and self-guided tours. The train station is set up as it was when it was active. The Walter and Doreen Nelson Main Street Village building houses four Paul Geraghty murals as well as an indoor Main Street with replica buildings of local businesses. In the Radius Innovation Union Place building, we house all of our agricultural equipment, including our carts and buggies. In addition to the original train station and the two buildings we built on site, we have moved St. David’s Anglican Church in from Truax, as well as a CN Cook Car. Our badlands tours run seasonally from mid-May to mid-October, depending on the weather, a few times a week. For specific tour dates and special requests, you can visit our website.

Travel back in time and enjoy the Briercrest & District Museum! We believe and recognize that our community is a product of our past. We believe it is vitally important to preserve our heritage, and to honour and acknowledge the hard work and achievements of those who came to Briercrest in the early 1900's. The old school building is set up so different rooms represent a theme. Individual themes of farming, trade and commerce, military, housekeeping, education, health, religious reflections, and recreation are harmoniously displayed to present a comprehensive view of early homesteading days in the community of Briercrest. Beside the museum is the “Brier Rose House” in recognition of a local poet, Edna Jaques. The building is filled with displays of achievements and contributions of the poet who is well known for her poem, “In Flanders Now.” The building was designated as a Heritage Site by the Village of Briercrest in 2008.

In operation since 1967, MJM&AG has a dual mandate of presenting contemporary and historic visual art in our Norma Lang Gallery and local history, heritage and culture in our Heritage Gallery, as well as collecting and preserving art and historical artifacts in a permanent collection consisting of 10,000+ objects.

Exhibits in our museum present the history and current culture of the First Nations Peoples of this area, immigrant stories of early settlers and present day newcomers, war history, and stories of businesses and organizations that have contributed to the cultural fabric of the City of Moose Jaw from the city’s establishment to present day.

Through our exhibitions, public engagement and educational programs, we create opportunities for exploration and inspiration to make art and our local culture and heritage relevant and inspiring for the community of Moose Jaw and surrounding areas. We design programming to be accessible and meaningful to people of all ages, abilities and diversities and to be reflective of the diverse narratives of our community.

Spring Valley Interpretive Centre

Location:

Spring Valley, Saskatchewan

Contact:

Gwen Beitel (306)630-6060

Located in Spring Valley between the Cactus Hills and Dirt Hills, the centre has evolved over years to serve the needs of the community.

The building was purchased in 1948 and moved from the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) site in Mossbank to Spring Valley to help address overcrowding in the schools at that time. When a new school was built in 1958, the building was bought by the Catholic parish and it was converted to a hall. The hall was later donated to the Village of Spring Valley. Spring Valley & District Interpretive Centre has recently undertaken renewal. The board is currently working towards generating awareness and appreciation for the natural and human history of the Cactus and Dirt Hills area for both local residents and visitors. The centre is working on collecting historical artifacts, and is available for bookings and local tours.
